Whuppity Scoorie in Lanark 2014 Slideshow
The annual Whuppity Scorrie ritual went ahead as it has for decades, with children running around the Cross three times, beating the winter out of the burgh with decorated paper balls on string.
Attendance at this year’s ceremony was well up on last year’s good turnout.

There were extra rewards in the form of prizes for the children in the Whuppity Scoorie poster design and ball decoration competitions, the poster winners being: P1-3 - Izaac Straub from Robert Owen Primary, P4-5 - Anna Trainor from Lanark Primary, P6-7 – and overall winner – Megan Graham, Robert Owen Primary.
In the ball competition the winners were two-year old Erin O’Donnel and ten-year-old New Lanark PS pupil Callum Duncan.
Ball competition organiser Margo Steel warmly thanked Community Council member Linda Chapman and Greta Steven for all their help.
