Budget protests go on as consultation ends
Up to 200 jobs and services amounting to £17.6 million could be axed as the council scramble to save a £20m shortfall over the next three years.
Residents were asked for their say during the four week review, ending December 5.

Hide AdExtra readers have voiced their objections, which include proposed cuts to day services for vulnerable adults, reductions in library provision and £9.1m in cuts to education.
Woodfarm High Parent Council wrote to The Extra: “We consistently perform well above national averages and exceed the school targets set by ERC — we are very concerned that unless halted, these reductions threaten to kill educational excellence.”
Meanwhile, a petition against the privatisation of the council’s only remaining care home Bonnyton House has gained almost 2,000 signatures.
The petition reads: “This is the home of old, vulnerable and in some cases infirm pensioners. We owe it to these people to explore all avenues before decisions are made.”

Hide AdProtester Allan Smillie, whose 97-year-old mother lives in Bonnyton, told The Extra: “Our petition is gaining momentum — we intend to make it available online and hope to present it to the council within the coming weeks.”
A council spokeswoman responded: “An online survey is available to any individual or group who wants to give their feedback and everyone is being encouraged to give their views.”
