Buchanan Street shut in part as fire service suppress blaze in Glasgow City Centre

A fire broke out on Buchanan Street this morning behind the Zara after eyewitnesses claim to have heard a ‘loud explosion’ in Glasgow City Centre.
Buchanan Street was shut off in parts at the bottom of the street near the St Enoch Centre, while the fire service battled a blaze near a residential building behind Zara in the city centre just before 10am this morning, June 27.

Hide AdNo casualties have been reported while there are currently two fire engines in place (at time of writing) on Buchanan Street to control the blaze, earlier this morning up to eight fire engines were crowded around the Zara shopfront on Buchanan Street.
The fire took place on the second floor of a seven storey residential building behind Zara, while the source of the fire is unclear, an eyewitness claims to have been told by the fire service that it was a bin fire.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 9.40am on Thursday, 27 June to reports of a fire within a seven-storey building in Glasgow.
"Operations Control mobilised seven appliances to the city's Buchanan Street, where firefighters were met by a fire within the building's second floor.
"The fire has now been extinguished and two appliances currently remain on scene with crews working to make the area safe.
"There are no reported casualties."
