The Romanian international is expected to report back to Auchenhowie for pre-season training after the tournament.

Ianis Hagi's agent has conceded it may be difficult to find the player a new club that are willing to sign him on a permanent basis from Rangers this summer.

The skilful 25-year-old playmaker - currently impressing at Euro 2024 for Romania - is under contract at Ibrox until 2026 and endured a frustrating season-long loan spell Spanish La Liga outfit Alaves which yielded just two goals last term. It remains unclear whether he features in Philippe Clement’s immediate plans at Ibrox after previously finding game time hard to come by under previous boss Michael Beale.

His representative, Giovanni Becali, claims Hagi intends to report back for pre-season training at Auchenhowie after the tournament, but insists there’s still a strong chance he will end up on the move again - likely to be on loan due to the length of his deal which could present an issue for interested suitors during the transfer window.

Bacali reckons the player must seek “continuity” over his lack of regular action in Glasgow, with a final decision due to be made on his future in the coming weeks as speculation over a possible exit continues. Speaking to Fanatik, Becali said: “He has a contract with Rangers. He will go there for pre-season, start training and then the decision will be made if they will loan him. He has a bigger contract. It’s hard to find a buyer. He needs continuity.”

Becali's brother Victor recently cited Turkish giants Fenerbahce as a potential destination for Hagi with rumours that Jose mourinho could request further details about the attacking midfielder’s availability. However, his agent has played down any links.

“There is no discussion with Fenerbahce.", he insisted. “If there was a Romanian player at Fener, I would be called immediately. Mourinho only started (pre-season) training yesterday. I know the situation very well. If Mourinho needs a player, he would contact me. About Ianis, there were simple speculations. That doesn’t mean that if I had an offer for Ianis, I wouldn’t be interested.”

Despite being somewhat of a forgotten man at Rangers, Hagi sent a timely reminder to Clement of his qualities after starring for his country against Group E opponents Slovakia at the European Championships on Wednesday. He was singled out for special praise for his performance after winning a penalty before being subbed off after 66 minutes.

BBC pundit and former Celtic striker Dion Dublin was on commentary duty and said live on air: “I think he’s skillful, determined and got a really good head on his shoulders. I believe he’s done his bit tonight. I probably wouldn’t have taken him off because he’s got that little bit of magic that can turn the game. But he’s played his part.”
