The Killers made a glittering return to Glasgow after a six year absence

The Killers brought a sense of their hometown Las Vegas to Glasgow last night as they performed an outstanding 21-song setlist to a sold out audience.

A special mention first has to go to Glasgow rockers Travis who really got the party started with a terrific warm up set that included hits “Sing”, “Flowers in the Window” and “Why Does It Always Rain on Me?” which had the place bouncing before Brandon Flowers and the band even took to the stage.

These three nights at the Hydro won’t be the only time that Travis perform at the venue as they will return back to Glasgow later in the year on their very own 'Raze The Bar' tour on 21 December.

Fran Healy was true to his word when he said “there show is going to blow your knickers off” as the Hydro erupted after the curtain dropped and The Killers headed into My Own Soul's Warning.

Flowers then said “Glasgow, how the hell are you” before the band produced hit after hit as the power of Hot Fuss which was released two decades ago remains a staple of the setlist with tunes such as “Somebody Told Me”, “Smile Like You Mean It” and “All These Things That I’ve Done” always being a highlight of the setlist.

The power of the music always carries the band through their gigs but the diamond-shaped stage and light show was also magnificent.

It was to then be a memorable night for one lucky person in the audience who had a sign asking if he could drum. Flowers invited Sam from Glasgow on stage to join the band to perform “For Reasons Unknown” with the Glaswegian not missing a beat.

As I previously mentioned, until the first gig on the Rebel Diamonds tour at the Hydro, it had been six years since The Killers had appeared in Glasgow but they were quickly making up for that and just like that night at TRNSMT did a phenomenal cover of The Waterboys’ “Whole of the Moon” which Flowers admitted was the one song he wished he had wrote.

Flowers is easily one of the best frontmen around and he showcased that throughout the night as he brings a certain charm and glamour to the stage. Before the encore this was perfectly encapsulated with “All These Things That I've Done” as 14,000 voices proclaimed “I’ve got soul but I’m not a soldier”.

At the start of the night, Flowers had said he would be our host for the evening and we certainly did enjoy our stay as the gig finished with “Mr. Brightside”, “When You Were Young” and “Exitlude”.

If you can get a ticket for The Killers final night in Glasgow make sure to go as this is not a show to be missed and was up there with the best gigs I’ve been at this year.
