The Southampton academy graduate is sticking around.

Stuart Kettlewell insists Callum Slattery is progressing in his recovery from a serious knee injury, after signing fresh Motherwell terms.

The all-action midfielder has signed a new one-year contract with the option of a further 12 months. Slattery formed an impressive midfield with the likes of Lennon Miller, Harry Paton and Blair Spittal last season before it was ended early with a knee injury in January.

He is continuing his recovery in the off-season and boss Kettlewell says there is good progress being made on the comeback front. The manager said: “Callum’s injury was a setback for the team but also for him personally.

“He had been playing regularly, scoring goals and helping the team. His confidence was high and I was gutted for him when he picked up the injury.

“However, there is no doubt in my mind that Callum will get back to that level of performance when he returns. So, for that reason, we’re delighted that we have agreed a deal with him. His recovery is going well and he’s working hard behind the scenes.”

Slattery added on signing a new Motherwell contract: “It’s so good to continue my stay here. I’m thankful to the club for the faith and trust they have shown. I know I can get back to the levels I’ve shown before and more.

“My focus is now just getting fit and getting back out there. I’m really missing playing in front of everyone at Fir Park. I will continue my recovery and look forward to seeing everyone again soon.”
