The new café has opened up on the corner of Argyle Street and Hope Street, and will open late to serve cocktails and other alcoholic beverages

A new retro transport themed café has opened this week under Glasgow Central Station on the corner of Argyle Street and Hope Street.

Central Café opened on the Hope Street / Argyle Street corner unit underneath the Hielanman’s Umbrella on June 26. Commuters, Glaswegians, and tourists can all grab hot drinks like coffee, tea, and hot chocolate as well as snacks like bagels, sandwiches, pastries, and salads too.

The coffee spot also has a late license, so can stay open in the evenings and serve alcohol - like cocktails, a similar concept to the ‘Sexy Coffee’ that opened in September last year on the other side of Glasgow Central Station.

Guests will also be able to pick out and choose vinyl records to play while they dine and/or drink in the space.

Explaining the décor of the space, Central Café wrote on social media: “We're bringing retro back to Glasgow. Our interior was directly inspired by the textures, colours, and patterns found in UK transport.

“Our wonderful underground, which is the 3rd oldest in the world, was a perfect piece of inspiration as well as the very trains you'll find above the cafe. Come sit with us soon and enjoy some old vinyls while you try your favourites from our menu.”
